META-SHARE has formulated its basic principles in the form of a Charter. The META-SHARE Charter is a document, in the form of declaration, aiming to solicit consensus from the language resources and language technology practitioners (providers and users, language technology community, market players, policy makers and the public at large) on the principles of sharing and its prerequisites.
The META-SHARE Charter attempts to raise awareness on LR sharing, in order to ensure maximum usability and sustainability of the emerging infrastructure. In that sense, organisations or individuals working on Language Resources shall be encouraged to adhere to the guidelines described in the Charter. Policy makers should actively encourage them to follow these guidelines by providing funding, setting rules, giving instructions or by taking any other appropriate measure.
The META-SHARE Charter was compiled with the help of legal experts and was further discussed within META-NET. The current version can be found here.
