Collaboration Agreement between KHRESMOI and META-NET

The Network of Excellence “Technologies for the Multilingual European Information Society”, henceforth META-NET, and the integrated project “Knowledge Helper for Medical and Other Information users”, henceforth KHRESMOI, both established within Framework Programme 7, recognise the complementarity of their objectives and declare their intent for multi-level collaboration.

Scope and Objectives of the Participants

The KHRESMOI project is developing a multilingual multimodal search and access system for biomedical information and documents. This will be achieved by:

• Effective automated information extraction from biomedical documents, including improvements using crowd sourcing and active learning, and automated estimation of the level of trust and target user expertise
• Automated analysis and indexing for medical images in 2D (X-Rays), 3D (MRI, CT), and 4D (MRI with a time component)
• Linking information extracted from unstructured or semi-structured biomedical texts and images to structured information in knowledge bases
• Support of cross-language search, including multi-lingual queries, and returning machine-translated pertinent excerpts
• Adaptive user interfaces to assist in formulating queries and display search results via ergonomic and interactive visualizations

The research will flow into several open source components, which will be integrated into an innovative open architecture for robust and scalable biomedical information search.

META-NET is a Network of Excellence dedicated to the technological foundations of the European multilingual information society. Its main goals are: to build a strategic alliance, consisting of national and international research programmes, corporate users and commercial technology providers and language communities; to strengthen the European research community through research networking and by creating new schemes and structures for sharing resources, that is the META-SHARE infrastructure; and to build bridges by approaching open problems in collaboration with other research fields such as machine learning, social computing, cognitive systems, knowledge technologies and multimedia content. META-NET will lead to a strong language technology community with ties to other R&D communities, with a network into industry and public administration, and with visions and plans for a strategic research agenda, to support the sustainability of the European, multilingual information society.

Areas of collaboration

• KHRESMOI will actively participate and exhibit at META events, e.g. META-FORUM;
• KHRESMOI will promote META through its various dissemination channels and materials;
• META will promote KHRESMOI through its various dissemination channels and materials;
• KHRESMOI will provide access to its tools and data resources via the META-SHARE infrastructure wherever possible, in addition to KHRESMOI project specific dissemination channels.
